Kolkata, Dec 28 (NationPress) A female Home Guard was discovered deceased under suspicious circumstances within the confines of a police station in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, officials reported on Sunday.

The lifeless body of the female Home Guard was located hanging inside a room in the residential quarters of the Canning Police Station. In the aftermath of the incident, the deceased's family lodged a murder complaint against a sub-inspector from the Canning police.

This incident has sparked significant unrest in the community. The 22-year-old Guljan Parveen Molla, affectionately known as Reshmi, hailed from the Uttar Moukhali region under the jurisdiction of Jibantala Police Station in Canning Block II.

According to police sources, the Home Guard returned to the residential quarters behind the Canning police station after completing her duty on Friday. Her family members were unable to reach her thereafter. Despite numerous attempts to contact her on Saturday, there was no response. Concerned, her family proceeded to the Canning police station, where her sister, Ruksana Khatun, went directly to the quarters. Upon entering, she discovered Reshmi's body hanging from the ceiling with a scarf around her neck.

Upon hearing Ruksana's cries, others rushed to the scene. The police promptly retrieved the body and transported it to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead on arrival. The body has been sent for an autopsy.

It is worth noting that Reshmi's father, Rashid Molla, was murdered in the Bhangar area of South 24 Parganas during the Panchayat elections approximately two years ago. Following this tragedy, the eldest daughter was granted a position as a Home Guard on compassionate grounds.

The deceased's family has implicated a police officer in connection with the incident. A formal complaint has been lodged against Sayan Bhattacharya, a Sub-Inspector at Canning Police Station. They allege that Sayan had an extramarital affair with Reshmi and that he murdered her to prevent the affair from becoming public knowledge. The victim's uncle, Chayed Molla, has called for severe punishment for him.

"The body has been sent for an autopsy. At first glance, this appears to be a case of suicide. However, the family has filed a complaint against a police officer. The investigation is ongoing," stated a senior official from Baruipur Police District.
