Kalaburagi (Karnataka), May 26 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have filed an FIR against BJP MLC and Opposition Chief Whip in the Legislative Council, N. Ravikumar, for his controversial statements concerning Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum.
The FIR was initiated following a complaint lodged by Dattatreya, a social activist from Kalaburagi city, on Monday.
Authorities have charged Ravikumar under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 197 (acts that may incite discord, hatred, or enmity among different communities), 224 (assault or criminal force to prevent a public servant from performing their duties), 299 (intentional and malicious actions aimed at provoking religious sentiments), 302 (hurting religious feelings), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (assault or use of force against a public servant).
Furthermore, the police have also cited Ravikumar under Section 3 (1) (r) of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. This incident is expected to spark significant controversy.
The FIR claims that Ravikumar purportedly questioned whether Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum is from India or Pakistan. He is also accused of asserting that, as a Muslim, she lacks the capacity for loyalty and trust towards the Indian Constitution due to her faith.
The complainant further claimed that Ravikumar made disparaging remarks about three police officers—Chandrashekara Tigadi, Nataraja Naade, and Shankaragouda Patil—alleging their incompetence in carrying out their responsibilities. He reportedly expressed uncertainty about whether Kalaburagi is situated in Karnataka or Pakistan.
Ravikumar is also said to have threatened Minister Priyank Kharge and police officials, thereby hindering them from executing their duties. He allegedly attempted to incite fear among the public and create divisions based on caste and religion.
Additionally, Ravikumar is accused of fostering animosity against Muslims and belittling police officers by referring to them as "slaves." He reportedly issued threats to Minister Priyank Kharge and community members, insulting and intimidating them. These remarks were allegedly made on May 24 in front of the office of the Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner, as per the FIR.
