Prime Minister Modi flagged off the initial Vande Bharat sleeper train from Malda Town in West Bengal on Saturday, and he also virtually launched the return Guwahati–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train from Guwahati.
As per a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been developed to cater to the rising transportation demands of modern India and aims to provide passengers with an airline-like travel experience at affordable prices.
This train is designed to make long-distance travel quicker, safer, and more convenient. By reducing travel time by approximately 2.5 hours on the Howrah–Guwahati (Kamakhya) route, the service is anticipated to significantly boost religious travel and tourism in the area.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is engineered to reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h, although it is expected to run at a standard speed of 120–130 km/h during regular operation.
For enhanced comfort, the sleeping berths feature ergonomic designs supported by a world-class suspension system, ensuring a smooth and restful journey.
In terms of sanitation, the train employs advanced disinfectant methods capable of eliminating 99 percent of germs. Fresh linens and towels are provided to each passenger.
Safety is paramount, with the installation of the indigenous Kavach automatic train protection system, complemented by comprehensive onboard surveillance via CCTV cameras.
Furthermore, the train includes automatic sliding doors that remain closed throughout the journey and only open upon reaching a station, thereby enhancing safety and automation.
