Visakhapatnam, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, conducted a review on Thursday concerning the ongoing heavy rains and strong winds impacting north coastal Andhra, alongside the potential for flash floods in three districts.
During a video conference with district Collectors from his official residence in Amaravati, Naidu sought updates on the conditions in the regions and instructed officials to maintain a continuous power supply.
Due to warnings from the Meteorological Department predicting possible flooding in certain areas, he emphasized the need for the administration to remain vigilant and keep residents informed.
The Chief Minister also urged officials to ensure that necessary services are accessible through a 24/7 control room.
He stressed that response teams should be prepared for any eventualities and, if required, facilitate the relocation of residents to safer locations.
Several regions of coastal Andhra experienced significant rainfall and strong winds on Thursday, resulting from a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.
The Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre indicated that this deep depression could make landfall on Thursday night or early Friday, between Paradip and Gopalpur.
As a result, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is predicted for the districts of Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Vizianagaram of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
A red alert has been issued for these three districts, which are likely to witness rainfall exceeding 20 centimeters, raising the risk of flash floods.
Furthermore, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two locations within Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, and Anakapalli districts, alongside an orange alert being issued for these areas.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in one or two places across the districts of Kakinada, Yanam, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, and Eluru districts.
The Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), Prakhar Jain, reported that gusty winds of 40-60 km/h could sweep along the coast.
Residents are advised to avoid sheltering under trees, in unstable buildings, or near billboards. For urgent assistance, they can reach out to the toll-free numbers 112, 1070, and 18004250101 of the APSDMA.
