Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Commissionerate Police apprehended two infamous inter-state fraudsters who were masquerading as officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) during a raid at a hotel in Bhubaneswar, as stated by Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh.

The suspects have been identified as Choudhury Rinku Saini, aged 36, from Karnal district, and Maninder Singh, aged 39, from Sonipat district in Haryana.

Saini falsely claimed to be the chairman of a commission under the MHA, while referring to Maninder as his Personal Assistant (PA).

"We received a message that appeared to be from the MHA, instructing us to provide pilot protection and other security measures for the suspects, mentioning them as the National Chairman of the Social Justice and Women Empowerment Commission. Upon reviewing the communication, we suspected that no such commission exists under the MHA. We contacted the MHA to verify the authenticity of the letter. After confirming that the MHA had not issued any such correspondence, we monitored the suspects closely until their arrest," Singh detailed.

He further noted that upon collaboration with law enforcement in Haryana, it was discovered that the fraudsters were involved in several cheating cases there as well.

Bhubaneswar's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Jagmohan Meena, confirmed that a case has been filed at the Maitri Vihar police station concerning various charges linked to cheating and forgery.

He disclosed that the accused had been sending their travel itineraries to government officials via official email to secure escort and pilot services as per protocol.

Upon verification with the Indian government, the police established that there is no national-level commission known as the "National Commission for Social Justice and Women Empowerment" under the MHA or the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

It was also revealed that Choudhury Rinku Saini does not hold any legitimate position within any Commission of the Union government.

"Upon initial investigation, it was found that the ID cards and documents produced by him were forged, with notable discrepancies in the title. By impersonating high-ranking officials of the Indian government and utilizing counterfeit documents, the suspects committed forgery with the intent to deceive," the Commissionerate Police stated in a press release.

The duo was apprehended on Sunday, and the police have confiscated forged letters and other materials utilized by them.

Authorities suspect they may have defrauded numerous individuals by claiming to be the chairman and PA from a fictitious national commission under the MHA.

The Bhubaneswar DCP also urged citizens through the media that anyone who fell victim to the fraudsters should reach out to their nearest police station.
