Gandhinagar, March 11 (NationPress) In a significant move, the Gujarat government has earmarked Rs 135 crore in this year's budget for the enhancement and modernization of the Gujarat State Wide Area Network (GSWAN), as announced by Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia during the Assembly session on Wednesday.
In response to inquiries from legislators, Modhwadia detailed that this investment is intended to fortify the state's digital framework and to bolster the security and effectiveness of the network that interlinks government offices throughout Gujarat.
Initially launched in 2001, the GSWAN network commenced at a speed of 34 Mbps but has seen substantial upgrades since then.
“Gujarat has consistently been a leader in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a Digital India,” stated the minister in the Assembly.
He further noted that the state has progressively enhanced its data network infrastructure to enable efficient digital governance and administrative connectivity.
As per the minister, district collector offices are now linked via the network with speeds reaching up to 1 Gbps.
At the taluka level, connectivity for mamlatdar and other government offices ranges from 200 Mbps to 500 Mbps.
These improvements, he emphasized, have significantly enhanced communication and data exchange within the state's administrative framework.
Modhwadia highlighted Gujarat's preeminent status in the nation for establishing a strong data network infrastructure via the GSWAN system.
He also elaborated on the state government’s larger goal of expanding digital connectivity beyond government premises.
“Our aim is to extend data network connectivity from districts to talukas and ultimately to citizens’ homes through the Gujarat Fibre Grid network,” he said.
The minister additionally mentioned that the government has instituted mechanisms to tackle technical challenges related to the network.
A state-level help desk has been established to efficiently manage and resolve complaints pertaining to GSWAN services.
He assured that the status of these complaints is consistently monitored to ensure high-quality service and prompt resolution of issues.
The GSWAN network is pivotal for various government services and digital platforms utilized by departments across Gujarat, facilitating administrative coordination and the provision of online public services.
