This statement was made as he bestowed literary accolades during a state-level ceremony held on the eve of International Mother Language Day.
While addressing the audience at the Mother Language Festival organized by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi, Chief Minister Patel remarked: "The true essence of our culture lies in the respect for other languages along with pride in one’s mother tongue."
He further elaborated on the importance of language, stating, "Our mother tongue begins with 'A' and extends to 'Gyaan', which signifies knowledge. The profound emotions and sensitivities can only be articulated through the rich heritage embedded in our mother tongue."
He emphasized that it is crucial to preserve language and culture for future generations, declaring it as "the need of the hour."
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that there is no comparison to mother, motherland, and mother tongue, adding, "Those who take pride in their mother tongue reflect pride for me as well."
For the year 2024, the Sahitya Gaurav Award for the Gujarati language was awarded to Praveen Darji, while Mavji Maheshwari was honored for the Kutchi language.
Under the Yuva Gaurav Awards for emerging writers, Ajay Soni was recognized for Gujarati literature and Dipak Nanda for Kutchi literature.
Chief Minister Patel described the mother tongue as a representation of collective identity and self-respect, asserting that initiatives like the 'Somnath Swabhiman Parv' have nurtured this self-regard among citizens.
He also pointed out that culture, language, and traditions of knowledge hold a significant position in the vision for a Developed India by 2047 and urged writers, creators, and language enthusiasts to push for the preservation and promotion of their mother tongues while striving for a Developed Gujarat within a Developed India.
Folk singer Kirtidan Gadhvi revealed to IANS: "In the presence of the Chief Minister, awards were distributed to artists statewide."
He stated, "We must all respect and cherish our mother language. This event has reinvigorated young artists, motivating them to contribute more to literature."
The ceremony was graced by the Minister of State for Sports, Youth Services, and Cultural Activities, Jayram Gamit, as well as Bhagyash Jha, Chairman of the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi.
During the event, the Akademi simultaneously launched 51 new books.
Attendees included Rahul Gupta, Secretary of Gujarat's Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, renowned litterateur Madhav Ramanuj, musicians Shyamal-Saumil Munshi and Aarti Munshi, and noted writer Tushar Shukla, along with numerous writers, language lovers, and literary enthusiasts.
