Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Blames TMC for Darkening Kolkata Roadshow, Raises Security Concerns
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 20 (NationPress) In a pointed criticism of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday accused the West Bengal government of intentionally turning off streetlights in a neighborhood during her roadshow in Kolkata. This act, she claimed, was aimed at obstructing her campaign and jeopardizing the safety of the thousands who had come to support BJP candidates.
Speaking to a large audience in the darkened streets, Gupta remarked, “The manner in which all the streetlights have been extinguished is a clear attempt to thwart my campaign. Should any accidents occur here today, I want to make it known to the media that the full accountability lies with the TMC government, their thugs, and the administration. Today, we have thousands gathered here, and all the lights in the area have been turned off. If there’s a security breach while the Chief Minister of another state is present, the blame will fall on Mamata Didi…”
Gupta was in Kolkata as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s vigorous campaign ahead of the significant West Bengal Assembly elections, which are set to occur in two phases on April 23 and 29.
She expressed strong faith in the BJP’s chances, asserting, “Everyone can see the outpouring of support for our candidates. This time, the BJP will undoubtedly rise to power in Bengal.”
Additionally, Gupta criticized the TMC’s track record regarding women’s safety and dignity.
“They have failed to provide security or respect for women. There is a prevailing sense of fear and anxiety among the women of Bengal. How can we forget the comments made by Mamata Banerjee when she questioned the need for women to be out at night?” she noted.
Gupta further charged, “The treatment of women by the TMC and its allied parties has been disgraceful, with ongoing atrocities against women for the past 15 years in Bengal.”
The roadshow attracted a massive crowd, which Gupta interpreted as a clear indication of changing political sentiments favoring the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of progress and effective governance.
