Gurugram, April 10 (NationPress) As temperatures soar, the district administration has released guidelines urging residents to adopt essential precautions to safeguard against heat waves and related health issues.
The Chairman of the District Disaster and Management Authority and DC Gurugram, Ajay Kumar, highlighted the severe risks associated with heat waves, indicating they can lead to significant physical stress and, in severe cases, can be life-threatening.
“Residents are recommended to stay informed about local weather updates. This knowledge will enable them to brace for the heat's intensity. One critical precaution is to maintain hydration. Adequate water intake is vital,” stated the DC.
He further advised wearing light-colored, loose cotton clothing during summer, covering the head with a hat or umbrella, and ensuring regular hydration even when not thirsty. Consuming ORS (oral rehydration solution) and homemade beverages like lassi, lemon water, and buttermilk are essential for battling heat waves.
“Avoid leaving children in vehicles, as they are vulnerable to heat stroke; do not walk barefoot; carry a hand fan for heat relief; take short breaks during work; and if working outdoors, seek shade under trees periodically,” he added.
He also encouraged people to refrain from consuming junk food during summer months, instead opting for fresh fruits, salads, and home-cooked meals.
“It is particularly important to avoid sun exposure between 12 PM and 3 PM. If a child experiences dizziness, vomiting, panic, severe headaches, chest pain, or breathing difficulties, a doctor should be consulted immediately,” he warned.
He emphasized that symptoms of heat stroke, such as dizziness, headaches, and fainting, must not be overlooked, urging anyone who feels unwell to seek medical help right away.
DC Ajay advised that to stay cool indoors, residents should use curtains or blinds to block sunlight during the day while keeping windows open at night to let cooler air in. Using fans and taking cold showers can also help reduce body temperature.
“In workplaces, employers should ensure the availability of cool drinking water. Workers should plan tasks for cooler parts of the day to avoid direct sun exposure. Special attention should be given to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and workers who are more susceptible to heat-related health challenges,” the DC remarked.
He also pointed out that it’s crucial to avoid consuming alcohol, tea, coffee, and fizzy drinks, as these can contribute to dehydration.
“Never leave children or pets exposed to hot conditions. Ensure animals are sheltered in shaded areas with ample water,” the DC concluded.
