Tel Aviv, Sep 30 (NationPress) On Monday, Israel's Foreign Ministry asserted that official documents from Hamas retrieved in the Gaza Strip indicate the terrorist organization's direct involvement in both the funding and orchestration of the 'Sumud' flotilla heading towards Gaza.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, consisting of around 50 civilian vessels and participants from over 40 nations, seeks to contest Israel's naval blockade that has been in effect since 2007, while delivering essential supplies like food and medical aid to Palestinians.
On the same day, the Israeli Foreign Ministry disclosed fragments of the Hamas documents, complete with translations and images depicting some of the flotilla's organizers alongside high-ranking Hamas officials.
According to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, "Documents from Hamas unearthed in the Gaza Strip, now revealed for the first time, illustrate a direct connection between the flotilla's leaders and the Hamas terrorist entity. While Hamas in Gaza oversees internal matters, Hamas Abroad is accountable for external activities, notably through the Palestinian Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA), which operates as a subsidiary of Hamas and acts as a faction of the movement."
The PCPA, established in 2018, serves as Hamas's representative body internationally, functioning effectively as Hamas's embassies. The organization purportedly operates under the guise of civilian activities and is tasked with mobilizing actions against Israel, including violent protests and flotillas aimed at provocation.
"The first official Hamas document identified in the Gaza Strip includes a letter from 2021, signed by Ismail Haniyeh, the Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, directly urging the PCPA chairman for unity. In this letter, Haniyeh publicly endorses the PCPA organization. It is significant to note that Israel classified the PCPA as a terrorist organization in 2021 due to its affiliation with Hamas," the Ministry stated.
Additionally, the second official document from Hamas contains a roster of PCPA operatives, several of whom are prominent Hamas figures.
"Included in the roster are Zaher Birawi, who leads the PCPA Hamas sector in the UK and is recognized for his leadership in organizing demonstration flotillas to Gaza over the past 15 years (listed as number 19 in the document), and Saif Abu Kashk (number 25), an operative associated with the organization in Spain. This document was located in a Hamas facility in Gaza and further substantiates the connection between the flotilla leaders and Hamas," the statement elaborated.
"Beyond being a PCPA operative affiliated with Hamas, Abu Kashk is the CEO of Cyber Neptune, a front company based in Spain that owns numerous vessels participating in the 'Sumud' flotilla. Therefore, these ships are covertly under Hamas's ownership," it concluded.
