Shimla, April 30 (NationPress) Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday urged the state Tourism Department to investigate the feasibility of introducing food vans and launching hop-on, hop-off luxury bus services throughout tourism circuits.
During a joint meeting with the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) and the Tourism Department, the Chief Minister was informed that the corporation has achieved a remarkable profit of Rs 107 crore for the first time, overcoming challenges from natural disasters.
Previously, the HPTDC had a turnover of Rs 78 crore under the prior BJP government.
Thanks to this profit, the HPTDC has been able to disburse Rs 41 crore in benefits to pensioners in the last two and a half years. Sukhu instructed officials to enhance services within HPTDC properties and consider leasing vacant properties to private entities under an operation-and-maintenance model.
He praised the agreement between HPTDC and the Food and Civil Supplies Corporation regarding material supply for HPTDC hotels. The Chief Minister also reviewed various developmental projects of the Tourism Department and emphasized the need to accelerate these initiatives to maximize revenue and improve infrastructure for tourists.
The government plans to invest Rs 2,415 crore in infrastructure development, wayside amenities, and adventure sports promotion. Sukhu urged the department to expedite the construction of Shivdham in Mandi district and beautification projects at Renuka Lake in Sirmaur district. He also called for the prompt operationalization of heliports to enhance air connectivity to several hill destinations.
Sukhu further reviewed expansion plans for Kangra, Shimla, and Bhuntar airports to improve air travel for tourists. Attendees of the meeting included HPTDC Chairman Raghuvir Singh Bali, MLA Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Director of Tourism Vivek Bhatia, and OSD to the Chief Minister Gopal Sharma.
