New Delhi, July 10 (NationPress) The Ministry of Home Affairs has granted Rs 1,066.80 crore for relief efforts in six states affected by floods and landslides: Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala, and Uttarakhand.
Of this amount, Assam received Rs 375.60 crore, Manipur was allocated Rs 29.20 crore, Meghalaya received Rs 30.40 crore, Mizoram got Rs 22.80 crore, Kerala was assigned Rs 153.20 crore, and Uttarakhand received Rs 455.60 crore as part of the Central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), according to a statement from the Ministry.
The heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides during the southwest monsoon have impacted these regions severely.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on X, "This year, over Rs 8,000 crore from SDRF/NDRF funds has been allocated to 19 states. Beyond financial aid, our focus is on delivering comprehensive logistical support, including the deployment of necessary NDRF, Army, and Air Force units."
Previously, Amit Shah emphasized that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is dedicated to offering every possible support to states affected by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
Thus far this year, the Centre has disbursed Rs 6,166.00 crore from SDRF to 14 states and Rs 1,988.91 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 12 states.
Additionally, Rs 726.20 crore has been released from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to five states and Rs 17.55 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to two states, as noted in the statement.
The central government has also ensured logistical assistance, including the deployment of the required NDRF teams, Army units, and Air Force support to all the affected regions.
During the current monsoon season, 104 NDRF teams are actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts across 21 States/UT.
The Indian Army is conducting extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations under 'Operation Jal Rahat 2', coordinating efforts in Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur.
As of Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur has formally requested assistance from the Army to provide immediate flood relief in Singrijan Colony, one of the most severely affected areas.
In Upper Assam, the Dhansiri River in Golaghat district has exceeded danger levels. Although water levels are now decreasing, the Army is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to respond if necessary.
In Manipur, the Nambol River flowing through Imphal West and Bishnupur districts has also reached critical levels. While floodwaters are receding, the Army continues to assist in relief operations alongside civil authorities, as stated in the announcement.
