Madrid, Oct 23 (NationPress) The Indian Air Force (IAF) is actively taking part in the multinational air combat exercise Ocean Sky 2025, which is being conducted by the Spanish Air Force at Gando Air Base in the Canary Islands.
The IAF has indicated that the primary goal of this exercise is to facilitate mutual learning, improve interoperability, refine air combat capabilities, and strengthen defense collaboration with allied nations.
"Exercise Ocean Sky 2025: The Indian Air Force is partaking in a multinational air combat exercise organized by the Spanish Air Force at Gando Air Base, Spain, from October 20–31. This initiative aims to promote mutual learning, elevate interoperability, enhance air combat skills, and reinforce defense cooperation with friendly nations," stated the IAF on X.
From October 15 to 31, the skies south of the Canary Islands will serve as a vast operational arena where Spanish and allied units will evaluate their capabilities in a complex and demanding environment.
As per the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the Canary Islands provide an ideal training environment due to favorable weather conditions and low air traffic levels.
The exercise is being directed by the Air Combat Command (MACOM) with operational leadership from Gando Air Base, supported by Lanzarote Air Base. The international deployment includes a diverse range of aircraft such as F-18M, Eurofighter, F-16 C/D B50, F-16 Fighting Falcon M, F-15E, Su-30MKI, along with tanker aircraft like MRTT, KC-767, KC-30M, A-332, and A400M, creating a formidable multinational force of over 50 aircraft aimed at enhancing interoperability among allies.
"The primary objective of Ocean Sky 25 is to conduct air superiority missions in both the Defensive Counter-Air (DCA) and Offensive Counter-Air (OCA) domains, simulating combat scenarios involving large combined air forces. Such exercises are crucial for enhancing interoperability, tactical leadership, and international cooperation capabilities, all vital for ensuring collective security within European airspace," stated the Spanish Defence Ministry.
This exercise comes shortly after India's Ambassador to Spain, Dinesh K Patnaik, along with senior officials from the Indian Air Force, received the last of the 16 Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft at the Airbus Defence and Space assembly line in Seville back in August.
