New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) - The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced an update regarding the departure of teams following the conclusion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. They confirmed that players from both South Africa and West Indies are heading home due to ongoing travel disruptions.
Several teams have found themselves stranded in India after the T20 World Cup due to current airspace limitations resulting from the conflict in the Middle East and West Asia. The West Indies concluded their tournament on March 1, yet they remain in India, while South Africa has also faced delays after their semifinal loss to New Zealand on March 4.
According to the ICC, four South African players and five family members have successfully boarded flights and are en route back home. The remaining 29 members of the South African team are set to depart within the next 24 hours.
In contrast, nine members of the West Indies group have already left for the Caribbean, with another 16 scheduled to depart India in the next 12 hours.
"Four players from South Africa and five family members are already in transit, while the rest of their group is expected to leave within the next 24 hours," stated the ICC.
"Among the West Indies squad, nine have departed for the Caribbean, and the remaining 16 are confirmed to fly out of India in the next 12 hours," the ICC added in their announcement.
The ICC is actively managing the logistical challenges resulting from these unexpected travel issues, including organizing accommodation for the teams affected.
"We appreciate the patience of both teams, alongside their players, families, and staff, as we work diligently to ensure their safe return home," the ICC concluded.
