Ileana D’Cruz Defends Rihanna Against Unrealistic Postpartum Expectations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Actress Ileana D'Cruz has criticized the unrealistic beauty norms that have come to light after global pop sensation Rihanna faced online backlash for not "bouncing back" immediately after giving birth.
Ileana expressed her thoughts on her Instagram stories in response to a viral conversation sparked by Rihanna being photographed with her younger son Riot. Many users on social media questioned why the singer hadn’t yet returned to her pre-pregnancy physique.
She shared a post from a magazine that stated: “This week, Rihanna was seen with her son Riot, and people did what they do best: criticized a woman for not quickly ‘bouncing back.’”
In her strong response, Ileana, who is a mother of two, stated that such online scrutiny was “absolutely infuriating” and emphasized the ridiculousness of expecting women to “bounce back” right after giving birth.
Ileana remarked: “She’s a powerful woman!”
She underlined that the demands placed on new mothers are not only unrealistic but also unjust, noting that the process of bringing a child into the world is a monumental achievement.
“She created an entire baby, gave birth, and is nurturing and keeping that baby healthy and alive, yet the prevailing question is 'hmm, why hasn't she bounced back yet?' It’s utterly infuriating to have such unrealistic expectations,” she added.
Ileana tied the knot with Michael Dolan in 2023 and welcomed their first child, a son, in the same year. She gave birth to their second son in 2025.
On the film front, the actress was last featured in the romantic comedy drama “Do Aur Do Pyaar”, directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta, alongside stars such as Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
At 38 years old, Ileana made her debut in 2006 with the Telugu romantic-drama film Devadasu. She followed this with appearances in films like Pokiri, Jalsa, Kick, and Julayi.
She also featured in the Tamil movie Nanban and broke into Hindi cinema in 2012 with Anurag Basu's comedy-drama Barf!
Her career includes notable box office hits such as Main Tera Hero, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, Happy Ending, Mubarakan, Pagalpanti, The Bigg Bull, and the crime thrillers Rustom and Raid.
