New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) officially launched its ‘AI for Good – Impact India’ Conference 2025 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on Friday, marking a pivotal advancement in promoting responsible and inclusive Artificial Intelligence (AI) development in the country.

This conference assembled leading AI figures, policymakers, industry specialists, emerging start-ups, and academic representatives to discuss transformative AI applications aimed at sustainable development, as stated by officials.

The primary objective of the event is to harness AI technologies to tackle national concerns such as healthcare, agriculture, climate resilience, digital inclusion, and public service delivery.

The ITU, established in 1865, serves as a specialized agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), dedicated to formulating global technical standards for seamless network interconnectivity and managing the allocation of the global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, while aiming to enhance digital access for underprivileged communities worldwide.

During the event, Telecom Secretary and Digital Communications Commission Chairman Dr. Neeraj Mittal highlighted the potential risks associated with AI, including deepfakes, voice cloning, financial fraud, and identity theft.

"Thus, we must remain vigilant about the future structure of telecom networks influenced by artificial intelligence. The transition from 5G to 6G presents an extraordinary opportunity for AI to enhance network intelligence, enabling self-healing capabilities and evolving from generative AI to agentic AI," he remarked.

India is committed to fostering a trustworthy, inclusive, and human-centered AI ecosystem through its $1.25 billion IndiaAI Mission, collaborating closely with global partners like ITU to ensure technology serves as a catalyst for trust, inclusion, and advancement, he added.

Bilel Jamoussi, ITU's Deputy Director and head of the Telecommunication Standardisation Policy Department (TSB), also stressed the necessity of building global partnerships to tackle critical matters such as AI misuse, data privacy, and cybersecurity risks.

The India Mobile Congress (IMC), renowned as Asia's largest technology forum, is co-organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).
