New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) India took just one hour on the final day to secure a seven-wicket victory against West Indies, completing a 2-0 series sweep at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. KL Rahul was the mainstay of the innings, scoring an unbeaten 58 from 108 deliveries, including six fours and two sixes, to guide India in chasing down the target of 121.

This win marks India's inaugural Test series triumph under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, following a drawn 2-2 series in England earlier this year. Despite the apparent ease of the victory, India had to work hard in New Delhi, marking their tenth consecutive Test win over the West Indies.

West Indies, after being asked to follow on, showed resilience with John Campbell and Shai Hope both scoring centuries, and a spirited last-wicket partnership of 79 runs extended the match to day five. However, once the match resumed, India efficiently wrapped up the chase despite an early hiccup, earning 12 crucial points for their World Test Championship standings, where they currently hold the third spot with a points percentage of 61.9.

The West Indies put up a commendable fight, demonstrating determination and spirit after suffering a significant innings defeat in Ahmedabad. Nevertheless, India's depth and composure, even after spending over 200 overs in the field, proved to be crucial. Key contributions came from Rahul, Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed eight wickets on a slow and unresponsive pitch.

The day commenced with KL Rahul and B Sai Sudharsan navigating through four maiden overs before Sudharsan broke the stalemate by lofting Jomel Warrican over mid-off for a boundary.

After some cautious play against Warrican and Khary Pierre, Rahul maintained India's momentum by clearing the boundary with a six over long-on, followed by a four through mid-wicket.

Sudharsan added just nine runs to his overnight score before being caught at slip by Shai Hope off Roston Chase's bowling.

Rahul, in fine form, hit a flat six over square leg off Warrican, while Shubman Gill also struck a maximum off Chase. Gill then misplayed a lofted shot to mid-wicket, but Rahul reached his fifty with a sweep, followed by a reverse sweep for another boundary.

After solid defense, Dhurv Jurel got off the mark with a dab off Chase for four, and Rahul sealed the match with a punch through the off-side for a boundary, securing a comfortable win for India.
