New Delhi, Oct 14 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer and coach Anil Kumble has commended Team India's 'clinical and consistent' performance in their series victory against the West Indies, following a seven-wicket triumph in the second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
This victory marks India's tenth consecutive win against the West Indies and their overall 122nd Test victory, surpassing South Africa to claim the No. 3 spot.
'A commanding performance by Team India throughout the series… Clinical and consistent with both ball and bat. Congratulations. Well done WI for putting up a fight in the second test match,' Kumble expressed on X.
The win signifies India’s first Test series victory under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, following a drawn 2-2 result in England earlier this year. Although the scoreline indicates an easy win, India had to work hard in New Delhi to defeat the West Indies for the tenth consecutive time in Tests.
Former cricketer S Badrinath praised Gill's captaincy and his development as a batter, stating, 'Shubman Gill’s evolution since the England tour has been pure class both as a batter and a captain,' on X.
India took exactly an hour on day five to secure a seven-wicket victory over the West Indies and complete a 2-0 series sweep. KL Rahul anchored the chase with an unbeaten 58 off 108 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes to help India easily pursue 121 runs.
Despite being asked to follow on, the West Indies fought valiantly, thanks to John Campbell and Shai Hope’s twin centuries and a resilient last-wicket 79-run partnership that extended the contest into day five.
However, once play resumed, India swiftly completed the chase despite an early hiccup, earning 12 crucial points in their World Test Championship tally.
With this victory, India remains third in the World Test Championship standings, with their point percentage rising to 61.9%.
