Gwalior, May 17 (NationPress) The Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, expressed on Saturday that India is positioned at the cutting edge of the swiftly evolving global telecom landscape, guided by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He emphasized that in the coming years, India will be pivotal in establishing regulations for 6G technology. This statement was made during a media interaction in his home district, Gwalior, on Saturday.
Scindia was addressing the press regarding India’s milestones in telecommunications in honor of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 17.
Appreciating the expansive reach of 5G, he highlighted that India’s rollout has been among the swiftest globally, aiming to connect 82 percent of the population within 22 months.
“With the implementation of 5G technology, we have achieved significant milestones, providing connectivity to 82 percent of the population across 99 percent of districts in just 22 months. India will spearhead the creation of 6G technology standards,” Scindia noted.
Furthermore, he mentioned that new services are being launched within the postal sector.
According to the Minister, India Post is one of the largest logistics and distribution networks globally, featuring 1.64 lakh post offices and 2.5 lakh postal employees.
“In 2008, I designed the logo for the Department of Posts, with the motto 'Postal Service is Public Service.' Every postal worker embodies this ethos. India will persist in leading the telecom transformation,” Scindia stated.
May 17 is recognized as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day to heighten global awareness of the social changes driven by the internet and new technologies, aiming to bridge the digital divide.
In other news, regarding India’s support for the boycott of Turkiye due to its backing of Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Scindia remarked, “This reflects the will of the people. The nation is paramount.”
“The boycott is an emotional choice made by the citizens. The nation’s interests take precedence, and no citizen will compromise on national security,” he asserted.
