Nicosia, Sep 21 (NationPress) In a pivotal move to bolster defence collaboration between India and Cyprus, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Trikand, recognized as one of the most sophisticated stealth frigates in the Indian Navy, docked on Sunday at Limassol Port in this Mediterranean country.
“Fitted with cutting-edge weapons, sensors, and stealth technology, INS Trikand epitomizes India’s maritime strength and its dedication to fostering global peace and security. This momentous visit showcases the strengthening ties of friendship between India and Cyprus, enhancing maritime relations, defence collaboration, and shared values across the seas,” stated the High Commission of India in Nicosia via X.
This port visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s official engagement in Cyprus in June, where both nations agreed on a four-year action plan aimed at boosting collaboration in defence, training, and maritime security.
Throughout the visit, the crew of the ship will engage in various professional and diplomatic activities, including a meeting with Commodore Minas Solomonides, the commander of the Cyprus Navy, along with a reception hosted by India’s High Commissioner, Manish, in Nicosia, as reported by local media.
INS Trikand also represented the Indian Navy in the inaugural bilateral maritime exercise with the Hellenic Navy of Greece, which concluded on September 18 in the Mediterranean Sea. This exercise marked a significant milestone in the escalating defence cooperation between India and Greece.
The exercise unfolded in two phases: a harbour phase from September 13 to 17 at Salamis Naval Base, followed by a sea phase on September 17 and 18.
Prior to this, on September 11, INS Trikand completed a port call in Alexandria, Egypt, during its ongoing deployment in the Mediterranean.
The ship represented the Indian Navy in Exercise Bright Star 2025, hosted by Egypt, which also included participation from the Indian Army and Air Force.
Besides the USA, Egypt, and India, forces from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Greece, and Italy also took part in the exercise.
During its port call in Alexandria, INS Trikand engaged in numerous activities aimed at strengthening both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. These included discussions with senior military officials, cross-deck visits, and cultural exchanges to enhance people-to-people connections.
