New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) India is poised to become the primary source for the majority of iPhones sold in the United States during the June quarter, according to CEO Tim Cook, as Apple shifts its supply chain strategy away from China.
In a call with analysts following the impressive results of the March quarter, Cook noted that the tariffs currently affecting Apple products are determined by their country of origin.
“For June, we anticipate that most of the iPhones sold in the US will be sourced from India, while Vietnam will be the origin for nearly all iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and AirPods sold in the US,” stated the Apple CEO during the quarterly earnings briefing.
He further remarked that China would remain the origin for a significant portion of total product sales outside the US.
“To provide transparency, the majority of our products, including iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro, are currently exempt from the global reciprocal tariffs announced in April,” Cook added.
Apple forecasts that US tariffs will lead to a loss of approximately $900 million in the current quarter (April-June), although their impact has been relatively “limited” at the start of the year.
“We predict that unless there are changes to the current global tariff rates, this quarter will cost us around $900 million. However, forecasting production mixes in the future is challenging,” Cook stated.
“The precise effect of tariffs is difficult to estimate due to uncertainties surrounding potential future actions before this quarter concludes,” he elaborated.
For the calendar year 2025, Apple plans to procure over 19 billion chips from various states, including tens of millions of advanced chips produced in Arizona this year.
“We have just launched iOS 18.4, which introduces Apple intelligence in more languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese, as well as localized English for Singapore and India,” Cook concluded.
