Mumbai, Sep 21 (NationPress) Renowned filmmaker and producer Mahesh Bhatt is preparing for the launch of his next production, 'Tu Meri Poori Kahani'. He has recently shared insights into his decision to mentor emerging talent rather than actively directing films.
During an interview with IANS as part of the promotional activities for 'Tu Meri Poori Kahani', the seasoned filmmaker revealed that he experienced a phase of disinterest in filmmaking. However, his passion for cinema remains strong, driving him to contribute back to the industry.
He expressed, “There comes a moment when you understand that your work reflects a certain era. The decade in which you created films defines you. You've absorbed those experiences and translated them into stories. But like everything, even the sun eventually dims. You start to notice that the fire within is fading. The urgency that once fueled you is diminishing. This is when you encounter young talents who possess an incredible drive to create.”
He added that finding fulfillment in shaping new creators is far more rewarding than simply producing films, stating, “How much more validation do you need? You've established yourself as a capable filmmaker. With the diverse range of films you've produced—from 'Janam' and 'Naam' to 'Zakhm', 'Aashiqui', and 'Sadak'—what more could you possibly desire? A sense of monotony sets in, leading to disinterest. That’s when I chose to become a mentor.”
Bhatt elaborated, “Mentoring isn't straightforward; it requires a hands-off approach. If my influence is visible in a newcomer’s work, then it's not truly theirs. I strive to grant young filmmakers the freedom to learn from my experiences while allowing them to make their own decisions. If they stumble, I let them. The lessons learned from failure are invaluable and cannot be imparted through mere words.”
“This journey has been incredibly fulfilling. I began this path with Vikram Bhatt during the making of 'Raaz'. Then came Anurag Basu, Kunal Deshmukh, and Mohit Suri. Even my eldest daughter, Pooja, launched her producing career with me in 'Jism',” he concluded.
'Tu Meri Poori Kahani' is scheduled for release on September 26, 2025.
