Manila, July 30 (NationPress) Indian naval vessels, INS Mysore, INS Kiltan, and INS Shakti, were warmly greeted by the Philippine Navy during their recent port visit to this Southeast Asian nation on Tuesday. This visit is intended to bolster maritime relations and improve collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.
"Welcome aboard. The Philippine Navy extends a warm welcome to the Indian Navy Ships INS Mysore (D60), INS Kiltan (P30), and INS Shakti (A57)," the Philippine Navy shared on X.
This deployment is in line with India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR) and highlights the Indian Navy's dedication to being a trusted partner.
Defense cooperation serves as a crucial foundation for bilateral relations and presents promising opportunities for future collaboration between India and the Philippines.
Ships from the Indian Navy and Coast Guard frequently visit the Philippines, engaging in discussions with their counterparts. Notably, three Indian Navy (IN) ships from the Eastern Fleet—INS Delhi, Shakti, and Kiltan—visited Manila in May 2024.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), previous port calls by Indian naval vessels include the ICG Samudra Paheredar in March 2024, INS Kadmatt in December 2023, INS Satpura in June 2022, and others dating back to August 2021.
With the goal of expanding institutional maritime engagement, the inaugural India-Philippines Track-1 Maritime Dialogue took place in Manila in December 2024, where both nations exchanged insights on current maritime challenges and explored avenues to strengthen maritime cooperation.
As part of the Indian Navy's ongoing operational deployment in Southeast Asia, the Indian naval ships Delhi, Shakti, and Kiltan from the Eastern Fleet, under the leadership of RAdm Susheel Menon, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF), made a port call to Tien Sa Port, Da Nang in Vietnam on July 24.
This visit to Vietnam signifies another important step in reinforcing the India-Vietnam strategic partnership and promoting a rules-based, inclusive maritime framework in the Indo-Pacific.
"Personnel from both navies will engage in a range of professional interactions, including operational planning discussions and onboard briefings, aimed at enhancing interoperability and mutual understanding. Additionally, the visit will include community outreach activities, friendly sports events, and guided ship tours," the Indian Navy stated.
