New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Highlighting the increasing naval collaboration and maritime synergy with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Indian Naval vessels INS Tamal and INS Surat have successfully completed their port call in Jeddah on August 30, as reported by an official on Monday.
These ships took part in a Passage Exercise alongside RSNF Corvette HMS Jazan before resuming their scheduled deployment, the official added.
Throughout their stay, the ships actively interacted with the Royal Saudi Naval Force and the Saudi Border Guard through various sports events and personnel exchanges. On August 28, they welcomed Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, aboard.
The Commanding Officers of INS Tamal and INS Surat met with RAdm Mansour Bin Saud Al-Juaid, the Western Fleet Commander of RSNF, and Maj Gen Fahad Bin Majid Al-Duajani, the Commander of the Royal Saudi Border Guard in the Mecca Region.
Discussions revolved around non-traditional security challenges in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean Region, emphasizing the importance of joint operations and comprehensive information sharing.
INS Tamal also organized a cultural event onboard, attended by senior Saudi officials, representatives from the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, and notable members of the Indian community.
This visit enhanced defense partnerships and amicable relations with Saudi Arabia, allowing both navies to exchange best practices and consider further collaborative opportunities.
Previously, Saudi naval and Indian officials extended a warm reception to INS Tamal upon its arrival in Jeddah on August 27, as the newest stealth frigate of the Indian Navy.
INS Tamal arrived in Jeddah on its voyage back to India following its commissioning in Russia.
The stealth frigate journeyed from Greece's Souda Bay, where the crew engaged with the Hellenic Navy and NATO representatives during its port visit from August 19 to 22.
This included a meeting with Commodore Dionysios Mantadakis, Base Commander of Souda Bay Naval Base, Captain Kouplakis Iiias, Head of the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC), and Captain Stephen Steacy, Commanding Officer of the Naval Support Activity of the US Navy on August 19.
Conversations during these meetings centered on operational issues and maritime collaboration.
A cross-deck visit was facilitated for the crew of INS Tamal aboard the multi-role amphibious assault unit ITS Trieste, a Landing Helicopter Dock of the Italian Navy, at Souda Bay.
