Bandaragama (Sri Lanka), Sep 28 (NationPress) Aarav Dewan, a 15-year-old talent from Gurugram, alongside Tarushi Vikram from Chikmagaluru, both clinched silver medals at the FIA Asia-Pacific Motorsport Championship 2025, which concluded here on Sunday.

Aarav secured second place in the Senior class of the Karting Sprint event, while Tarushi, who previously earned a silver at the Asian Auto Gymkhana Championship, delivered an outstanding performance to take second in the Asia-Pacific Motorsport Championship.

Despite Aarav's commendable P2 finish, India faced challenges as Kiaan Shah (Juniors) and Rehan Khan Rasheed (Cadet) had to retire from their finals due to a mechanical failure and a crash, respectively, despite being in podium contention.

Eight-year-old Arshi Gupta from Faridabad demonstrated impressive skill by finishing fourth, just five-hundredths of a second shy of third-placed Sum Lo from Hong Kong, China, while Rayan Gowda from Bengaluru finished ninth in the Cadet Final.

In the senior final, Aarav performed admirably but couldn't keep pace with the leader Yu Ka Po (Hong Kong, China), focusing instead on defending his P2 position, which remained unchallenged, while B Kumar Gowda from Bengaluru finished seventh.

“It was a good race, but I just didn’t have the pace to match the leader. So, I did the next best thing of defending my P2 position. I am thrilled to win a medal for India and it’s my first in an international championship,” Aarav expressed.

In the Junior section, the retirement of Kiaan Shah was disappointing as he was running second before his engine failed. Other competitors included Akshat Misra from Bengaluru, who achieved a respectable fifth place, and Thomas Jacob George from Kottayam, who finished eighth. Similarly, Rehan Khan Rasheed, who led the first two laps, dropped to fifth after an understeer caused a crash.

The two Indian teams concluded the endurance race in fifth and eighth place after previously showing promise for a podium finish. In the two 30-minute Endurance Sprints, the teams struggled and ended in mid-field positions.

India did not secure any medals in Karting Slalom, although several competitors came close to podium finishes.

India's hopes for a medal in the Autocross event faded as Chetan Shivram from Bengaluru and Philippos Matthai from New Delhi finished outside the top 8 qualifying for the medal round, while another Indian entry, Pragathi Gowda, was eliminated.

While Tarushi earned her second silver this weekend, gold medallist from the AAGC event, Achintya Mehrotra from New Delhi, struggled with penalties that knocked him out of medal contention, alongside Prateek Dalal from Bahadurgarh, Haryana.

India's challenge concluded when Sai Shiva Makesh Shankaran from Pune, the only Indian in the iRacing event, crashed during the semi-final.
