Imphal, April 6 (NationPress) The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allocated ₹217 crore as financial assistance in the last fiscal year (2024-25) aimed at relief and rehabilitation for individuals displaced due to the ethnic violence in Manipur, which has persisted since May 3, 2023, officials reported on Sunday.
Over 50,000 men, women, and children have been residing in approximately 250 relief camps across various districts after being forced from their homes and communities following the outbreak of violence 23 months ago.
Thousands of prefabricated homes have been erected in different districts of Manipur for families affected by the violence, who are currently living in these relief camps.
A senior official from the Manipur Finance Department indicated that the recently concluded fiscal year (2024-25) saw substantial support from the Central government across multiple sectors.
In March (2025), ₹1,926 crore in Central assistance was received through Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), and various other Central schemes.
This marks the highest amount of assistance received in a single month.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently pledged support for Manipur under SASCI. A total of ₹1,437 crore was granted under SASCI in the last fiscal year, representing the highest amount received in a financial year. Notably, 60 percent of this support, amounting to ₹869 crore, was received in March alone. The SASCI funding also included a special allocation of ₹320 crore for settling liabilities related to ongoing and recently completed Public Works Department projects.
The official mentioned that in the fiscal year 2024-25, ₹169 crore was allocated for Rural Housing under PMAY-Grameen. Additionally, ₹520 crore was provided for School Education, ₹305 crore for Health, and ₹458 crore from the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
This year marked the first time an additional (fifth) installment under the National Health Mission was received, beyond the standard four installments.
Since Manipur has been under President's Rule since February 13, the Union Finance Minister presented the state budget for 2025-26 in the Lok Sabha on March 10, proposing total expenditures of ₹35,104 crore, an increase from the revised estimates of ₹32,657 crore in the current fiscal year (2024-25).
