Andhra Pradesh Unveils India's First Quantum Computer Testing Hub
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, April 9 (NationPress) To commemorate World Quantum Day on April 14, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, will officially open India's first homegrown Quantum computer testing facility at SRM University, Amaravati.
Additionally, he will conduct a virtual inauguration of the Quantum facility center located at Medha Towers in Gannavaram, close to Vijayawada.
The state government has declared that Andhra Pradesh will be the pioneer in establishing such a facility, with the Amaravati Quantum Valley expected to become a global center for Quantum computing.
According to the agenda, the Chief Minister will observe the initiation of a live quantum system, with the cooling process of the processor activated virtually on the Amaravati 1Q system, which is situated at Medha Towers. Concurrently, the Amaravati 1S system will serve as an open-access setup, fully visible to the audience during the demonstration.
The launch of the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF) signifies India's possession of sovereign quantum infrastructure. Amaravati is set to become the pivotal node of a national quantum hardware network, allowing India to design, test, certify, and manufacture quantum systems for international markets, stated a senior official.
Technologies developed through the AQRF encompass cryogenics, precision electronics, and quantum-grade fabrication, with strategic applications in defense, healthcare, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Under the National Quantum Mission, the Amaravati Quantum Valley will feature an IBM 133-qubit Quantum computer and has formed partnerships with over 80 industries and academic institutions, positioning it among the top five global quantum hubs.
The opening of the AQRF on World Quantum Day introduces an indigenous hardware aspect to Amaravati Quantum Valley's offerings, complementing its existing quantum cloud, skill development, and innovation frameworks.
PS Pradyumna, Secretary to the Chief Minister, elaborated that this initiative represents a long-cherished aspiration for the people of Andhra Pradesh, with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu transforming the vision of the country's first indigenous Quantum Computing testing facility into reality on April 14.
He noted that the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of establishing local hardware manufacturing ecosystems in Amaravati to foster Quantum technology. SRM University has played a crucial role in facilitating this access for students.
He also remarked that individuals have enjoyed the advantages of computer technology for over thirty years, and now it's time to transition into Artificial Intelligence and Quantum technology.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the Chief Minister underscored the need to modernize youth skills to align with the demands of emerging quantum technology.
In response to this call, millions of students have enrolled in skill training programs. At the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai alone, 250,000 students have signed up for training.
