New Delhi, July 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the Rio 2025 BRICS Summit, reiterated India’s commitment to tackling pressing issues such as climate change and health security as the nation prepares to assume the BRICS chairmanship next year. He emphasized that under India's leadership, the focus will be on a 'humanity-first' approach, aiming to reshape BRICS into a more impactful collaboration.

Following a successful visit to Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Summit, PM Modi arrived in Brasilia for discussions with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, aiming to strengthen India-Brazil ties.

Addressing the BRICS session on Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, the Prime Minister praised the organization for prioritizing significant issues such as the environment and health security—topics he deems essential for humanity's future. He underscored India's belief that climate justice is not merely a choice but a moral duty.

PM Modi reiterated that addressing climate change and ensuring environmental safety have always been paramount for India. He stated, 'For us, it's not merely about energy; it's about achieving harmony between life and nature.'

With India set to take the helm of BRICS next year, the Prime Minister highlighted that the agenda will prioritize the global south and emphasize a people-centric and 'humanity first' framework.

He also indicated that under India's presidency, BRICS will be redefined as Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability. PM Modi congratulated President Lula for his adept handling of the Summit and expressed gratitude for Brazil's warm hospitality.

The session on 'Environment, COP-30, and Global Health' witnessed participation from BRICS members, partner nations, and invited countries.

PM Modi extended his thanks to Brazil for hosting discussions on such vital global issues.

He noted that India's approach to climate change transcends energy discussions, impacting the equilibrium between life and nature. He framed climate justice as an obligation India must honor.

Reiterating India’s strong commitment to environmental initiatives, he detailed various programs aimed at fostering pro-people and pro-planet growth, including the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, International Big Cat Alliance, Mission Life, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.

The Prime Minister highlighted that India is committed to sustainable growth. As the fastest-growing major economy, it fulfilled its Paris commitments ahead of schedule. He called for technology transfer and affordable financing for developing nations to engage in climate initiatives. He regarded the Framework Declaration on Climate Finance adopted by the group as a significant advancement.

Discussing India’s dedication to green development, he mentioned that India has embraced the mantra of 'One Earth, One Health' in supporting nations, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PM Modi showcased India’s successful digital health programs and its readiness to share these with global south countries. He welcomed the adoption of the BRICS Partnership for the Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases declaration.

During the session on Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, he stated, 'Guided by the mantra of 'One Earth, One Health,' India has broadened cooperation with all nations. Currently, India hosts the world’s largest health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat, which serves over 500 million people. We have established a robust ecosystem for traditional medicinal practices such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Siddha. Through our Digital Health initiatives, we are providing healthcare services to a growing number of individuals, even in the most remote regions of the country. We are eager to share our successful experiences in these domains.'

He expressed satisfaction with BRICS emphasizing the importance of health collaboration, highlighting the establishment of the BRICS Vaccine R&D Centre in 2022 as a pivotal step forward. The Leader’s Statement on the BRICS Partnership for the Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases is set to inspire further collaboration.

PM Modi concluded his address by stating, 'I sincerely thank all participants for today’s essential discussions. Under India’s chairmanship of BRICS next year, we will continue addressing all crucial matters. Our aim will be to redefine BRICS as Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.
