Jaipur, Oct 1 (NationPress) Farmers who have experienced damage to their harvested crops that were left in the fields for drying due to unexpected rains can now seek compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). This is contingent upon reporting the losses within 72 hours, as stated by the Secretary of Agriculture and Horticulture, Rajan Vishal, following the recent unseasonal rains, hailstorms, and cyclonic activity impacting various areas of Rajasthan.
Vishal explained that the PMFBY provides insurance coverage for crops that are in the field for drying for up to 14 days after harvest. If these crops suffer damage due to severe weather events like untimely rains or storms, farmers can make individual claims.
To begin the claims process, affected farmers need to report the crop loss within the specified 72-hour window. This can be accomplished through the Krishi Rakshak Portal or by contacting the helpline 14447.
Alternatively, farmers can fill out a loss form and submit it to their local insurance company, the nearest agriculture office, or the appropriate bank branch within their district.
The Agriculture Department has instructed all insurance companies to quickly assess the reported losses and take necessary actions.
Officials from both the department and the insurance firms have been tasked with promptly visiting the affected areas to conduct field assessments of crop damage.
“Timely surveys and immediate actions are crucial so that eligible farmers receive compensation as soon as possible,” Vishal emphasized.
He urged all farmers to adhere to the 72-hour reporting timeline, as any delays could jeopardize their eligibility for claims.
This initiative forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to deliver timely assistance to farmers and mitigate the financial repercussions of weather-induced crop losses.
