Ahmedabad, March 9 (NationPress) Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has expressed admiration for the current Indian team after their remarkable triumph in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. He regards this squad as the finest white-ball team, commending the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

India secured the championship by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, marking a historic achievement as the first team to clinch three Men’s T20 World Cup titles while defending their trophy successfully.

Addressing the media in Ahmedabad post-victory, Pathan asserted that the Indian team has positioned itself as the most formidable white-ball side.

“There is no doubt that this is the best white-ball team,” Pathan remarked to reporters in Ahmedabad.

He praised Suryakumar’s captaincy and Gambhir’s efforts in unifying a strong team that consistently performs at the highest level.

“The way Suryakumar Yadav led the team and how Gautam Gambhir brought everyone together was impressive,” he stated.

Pathan also pointed out Gambhir’s humility in recognizing the contributions of other significant figures in Indian cricket, noting that the head coach acknowledged those who shaped the team's success.

“What stood out to me was Gautam’s recognition of everyone — Ajit Agarkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. It reflects his sincere character,” Pathan commented.

According to Pathan, Gambhir’s mindset emphasizes the significance of clear intentions and teamwork in achieving success.

“When your heart is pure and your intentions are correct, success follows. Indian cricket has reaped the rewards. Everyone prayed for this victory, and there's no doubt about that,” he remarked.

This recent victory also signifies India’s second consecutive T20 World Cup title, following their win in 2024, further solidifying the team’s supremacy in the shortest format of the game.

Pathan noted that the back-to-back wins have brought immense joy to former players who remain engaged with Indian cricket.

“The way we are winning consecutive World Cups now brings great happiness and peace to the hearts of former cricketers who are still connected to Indian cricket,” he added.

The former all-rounder concluded by stating that celebrations among past and current members of the Indian cricket community will persist whenever the national team achieves such remarkable feats.

“Whenever the Indian team wins the World Cup, our celebrations and dancing will continue,” Pathan affirmed.
