Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 14 (NationPress) Following their triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Jay Shah, chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), made a special visit to the Shree Siddhivinayak Temple on Saturday, proudly displaying the trophy.
On Sunday, March 8, India claimed victory over New Zealand by 96 runs in the tournament final, creating history as the first team to win the title three times, to secure it on home ground, and to successfully defend their championship.
This day also marks a significant achievement for the Indian captain, who celebrated five years in international cricket, having debuted for Team India on this day in March 2022 against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which was also the site of their historic T20 World Cup win.
The 35-year-old reflected on his journey and shared an emotional message on social media, stating, “Five years ago, a dream became a reality. Wearing the India jersey is a feeling I can never fully describe. Here’s to countless more memories we will create for Team India.”
Earlier in the week, Gambhir had visited the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi to offer prayers, as part of a series of spiritual observances during and after the tournament.
After their victory, Suryakumar, Gambhir, and Jay Shah also visited a Hanuman Temple adjacent to the stadium in Ahmedabad, where they offered prayers while holding the trophy.
Prior to and during the tournament, Gambhir had visited several temples. Before the third T20I match against New Zealand in January, he prayed at the Kamakhya Temple. Following that game, he and the Indian team members made a stop at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple before the fourth T20I.
Gambhir, who was a key player in India's victorious 2007 ICC T20 World Cup squad, has now reached another milestone by winning the tournament as both a player and a coach. His recent achievements place him among an elite group of coaches, including Rahul Dravid and Lalchand Rajput, who have also led India to T20 World Cup victories.
