India triumphed over New Zealand by 96 runs in the tournament final on March 8, marking a historic achievement as they became the first team to win the title three times, secure it on home soil, and successfully defend their championship.

This day also signifies a significant milestone for the captain, as it marks five years since he debuted in international cricket on this very day in March 2022 against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which was also the venue for India’s historic T20 World Cup win.

Reflecting on his journey, the 35-year-old shared an emotional message on social media stating, “Five years ago, a dream turned into reality. Wearing the India jersey is a feeling I can never fully articulate. Here’s to creating many more memories for Team India.”

Prior to this, Gambhir had visited the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi to offer his prayers, continuing his series of spiritual visits during and after the tournament.

Following their victory and the nationwide celebrations, Surya, Gambhir, and Jay Shah also visited a nearby Hanuman Temple adjacent to the stadium in Ahmedabad to offer their prayers and showcase the trophy.

Gambhir, who played a pivotal role in India’s 2007 ICC T20 World Cup triumph, has now achieved the remarkable feat of winning the tournament both as a player and a coach. His recent success places him in the ranks of esteemed coaches like Rahul Dravid and Lalchand Rajput, who have also led India to T20 World Cup victories.
