Nottingham, June 20 (NationPress) India’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has officially joined Nottinghamshire on a temporary contract that covers the upcoming two Rothesay County Championship matches.

The talented left-hander steps in as a replacement for Kyle Verreynne, who is currently representing South Africa in a two-Test series against Zimbabwe.

Kishan will be available for selection in the forthcoming Championship matches against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and Somerset in Taunton.

“I’m incredibly excited to experience county cricket in England for the first time, and this is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate my skills. I aim to develop into the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will significantly aid in honing my abilities,” Kishan expressed.

“Trent Bridge is an iconic venue recognized both in India and globally, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to play there,” he added.

Ishan’s signing is pending international clearance. He is a former winner of the Asia Cup and U19 World Cup with India, and has played for his country across all three international formats.

After being included in India’s squad for the 2023 World Test Championship final, Ishan made his Test debut a month later against the West Indies, scoring an impressive unbeaten 52 off just 34 balls in his second match.

He boasts over 3,000 runs in First-Class cricket, including 17 half-centuries and eight centuries. Additionally, he has taken 118 dismissals as a wicketkeeper.

Ishan has played for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy throughout his career, and notably scored 273 against Delhi in 2016 at the age of 18, setting a new record for Jharkhand in the tournament.

Moreover, he has appeared for IPL teams including Gujarat Lions, Mumbai Indians, and most recently, Sunrisers Hyderabad, for whom he scored a remarkable 106 off 47 balls in the 2025 season.

Head Coach Peter Moores commented, “We are thrilled to have Ishan on board for these next two Championship fixtures while Kyle is away with South Africa. We encourage players to express themselves and bring their unique style to the game. Ishan's eagerness to engage in county cricket is particularly exciting.”

“He brings substantial quality with his aggressive batting as a middle-order batsman. Although he is still refining his red-ball game, this opportunity will be immensely beneficial for both him and the team.”
