Mumbai, June 9 (NationPress) As he prepares to lead the SoBo Mumbai Falcons into the semifinals of the T20 Mumbai League, Shreyas Iyer expresses his delight in captaining a team, noting that it brings a significant amount of maturity and responsibility.

The prominent batsman of the Indian white-ball squad, Iyer is currently experiencing a stellar run as a captain, having previously led the Punjab Kings to a runners-up position in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. His leadership has been crucial in steering the team to the semifinals, positioning them as a formidable contender for the prestigious title.

At just 30, this dynamic batsman has excelled on the field, effectively managing a team composed of both youth and experience. Under his guidance, the Falcons have clinched their semifinal berth with an impressive record of four victories out of five league-stage matches.

“Being a captain brings substantial maturity and responsibility. There's an expectation to perform and contribute positively to the team's success, especially during challenges or adversity, as the team looks to the captain for guidance. Since I began captaining at 22, I've gained valuable experience. I cherish these moments and embrace the role. I truly enjoy leading,” Iyer shared in an interview with the T20 Mumbai League.

On managing high-pressure situations, he remarked, “I strive to focus on the present, getting into my zone and concentrating on what's in front of me. I try to remain as focused as possible, embracing the situation and the energy from the crowd, which can be electrifying. I remind myself that I want the crowd to support me, which fuels my motivation.”

Iyer stands among the top international talents participating in one of India’s premier domestic franchise-based T20 tournaments, sharing the field with players like Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube.

The right-handed batsman also expressed his thoughts on the T20 Mumbai League's role in fostering young cricketers, emphasizing its significant impact on their growth and preparation for future challenges.

“The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has made commendable efforts to establish this league, identifying talents who have consistently delivered at the grassroots level in Mumbai. This provides them with an excellent platform to showcase their skills and thrive beyond club cricket,” he noted.

Iyer's journey from a young dreamer at Shivaji Park to becoming a match-winner for India is truly inspiring.

Reflecting on his experience in the dressing room alongside familiar faces, he said, “I recognize several faces here; I've played with many in club cricket and during my school and college days. It's great to reconnect and play alongside my teammates.”

The semifinals and final are set to take place at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

The first semifinal at 2:30 PM will showcase an exciting clash between the Eagle Thane Strikers and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, while SoBo Mumbai Falcons will face off against the Bandra Blasters in the second semifinal at 7:30 PM.

Fans can anticipate thrilling displays from international star Iyer and some of Mumbai’s rising stars, including Atharva Ankolekar, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Harsh Aghav. The tournament is being broadcast on Star Sports 1 (English & Hindi), Star Sports 2 (English), and JioHotstar.
