Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 17 (NationPress) In a significant turn of events that could stir the dynamics within the ruling Congress party in Telangana, state minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has put forth a request for the appointment of senior leader Jagga Reddy as the chief of the state Congress party. During an informal interaction with journalists in the Assembly lobbies, the minister responsible for roads and buildings expressed that Jagga Reddy should be designated as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).
The minister emphasized that Jagga Reddy is a popular leader, asserting that his elevation to TPCC chief would pave the way for the Congress party to secure 100 seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
He drew a parallel between Jagga Reddy and P. Janardhan Reddy (PJR), who was the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the unified Andhra Pradesh Assembly from 1994 to 1999.
Currently, the TPCC is led by Mahesh Kumar Goud, who took over the role in September 2024, succeeding Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who held the position since July 7, 2021.
T. Jayaprakash Reddy, widely recognized as Jagga Reddy, is presently the working president of TPCC and has served as an MLA from the Sangareddy constituency for three terms. He transitioned from the TRS (now BRS) to the Congress party in 2015.
In another development, senior leader and ex-minister T. Jeevan Reddy revealed on Tuesday his contemplation of leaving the party due to issues with Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar.
Jeevan Reddy disclosed to the media in Jagtial that although he has a long-standing 40-year affiliation with the Congress, the situation with Sanjay Kumar has prompted him to consider exiting the party.
He has been engaged in a contentious rivalry with Sanjay Kumar, one of the ten MLAs from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) who switched allegiances to the Congress party in 2024.
Jeevan Reddy, who faced defeat against Sanjay Kumar in the Jagtial constituency during the 2023 elections, has openly criticized the party leadership for admitting him.
Recently, the Telangana Assembly Speaker has dismissed petitions aimed at disqualifying all ten MLAs involved.
The internal strife within the Congress party in Jagtial district became evident when Jeevan Reddy voiced his displeasure over the allocation of more party tickets for municipal elections to Sanjay Kumar’s faction.
