TPCC Leader Mahesh Goud Appeals to Jeevan Reddy to Stay with Congress
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 24 (NationPress) Mahesh Kumar Goud, the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, visited senior Congress figure and ex-minister T. Jeevan Reddy in Jagtial on Tuesday, urging him to reconsider his choice to leave the party.
During this meeting, Goud expressed to Reddy the importance of his continued presence in the party, highlighting Reddy's extensive political experience. He emphasized that both the TPCC and AICC cannot afford to lose him.
Goud noted that Reddy's feelings of disappointment stemmed from various party decisions, encouraging him to rethink his resignation.
Additionally, the ruling party has been actively trying to convince Reddy to remain a member over the past few days, including a recent meeting with state minister D. Sridhar Babu.
On Sunday, Reddy announced his intention to resign from Congress, marking the end of his nearly 40-year relationship with the party.
He cited ‘growing interference’ from ‘defected’ MLAs in party matters as a significant reason for his decision, warning that such defections could harm Congress's reputation nationally.
“Respect should be paramount, and without it, continuing in politics is meaningless,” he stated.
Reddy accused Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar of undermining the dedicated Congress workers in the district, alleging that those who worked hard to bring the party to power have been overlooked.
In a public letter to party members, Reddy expressed that it had become increasingly challenging to stay with Congress amidst ongoing insults and emotional distress. He invited members to a meeting on March 25 in Jagtial to discuss their future steps.
Reddy has been in a contentious dispute with Sanjay Kumar, one of the ten MLAs from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) who defected to Congress in 2024.
Having been defeated by Kumar in the Jagtial constituency during the 2023 elections, Reddy has openly challenged the party leadership's decision to welcome Kumar.
Despite petitions for disqualification of all ten MLAs being dismissed by the Telangana Assembly Speaker, the internal conflict within Congress in Jagtial resurfaced recently when Reddy voiced concerns over additional party tickets being allocated to Kumar’s faction for upcoming municipal elections.
