Jammu, March 26 (NationPress) The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has, on Wednesday, dismissed four of its employees due to their connections with the narcotics trade.
According to officials, the four terminated personnel include: Abdul Rashid Bhat, Gang Coolie from the Irrigation & Flood Control Division Sumbal; Dilbag Singh, Lineman from the Jal Shakti (PHE) Sub-Division, Hiranagar; Gulzar Ahmed, Assistant Motorman at the Hydraulic Division Ramban; and Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Gang Coolie from Ferozpora Basin, Irrigation division, Tangmarg.
This action follows thorough investigations conducted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Legal cases have been initiated against them in their respective locations due to their involvement in the drug trade, as stated by the officials.
After the abrogation of Article 370 and the enactment of the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019, the Union Territory government has been exercising powers granted to the Lieutenant Governor under Article 311 (2) (c) of the Indian Constitution to terminate employees for associations with terrorist activities, anti-national actions, drug trafficking, hawala operations, and other activities that threaten the nation's safety and security.
Employees are dismissed following a comprehensive review of their actions. Once the appropriate authority confirms their involvement in such detrimental activities, they are released from service. Over the past four years, numerous government employees across various departments, including police, revenue, forest, and public works, have been terminated.
Article 311 (2) (c) of the Indian Constitution allows for the expulsion of individuals employed in civil roles under the Union or a State. If law enforcement and intelligence agencies detect activities that are harmful to the state's interests, necessary actions are executed.
This article permits the dismissal, removal, or demotion of a civil servant without a prior inquiry when the President or Governor deems it against state security interests to conduct such an inquiry.
