Hyderabad, Oct 7 (NationPress) The by-election for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency in Hyderabad is set to take place under the newly implemented electoral reforms as announced by the Election Commission of India. Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharshan Reddy confirmed this on Tuesday.
During a meeting with representatives from assorted political groups, the by-election schedule was discussed. Major parties represented included the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
The CEO emphasized that the forthcoming bye-election will be conducted under the new electoral reforms initiated by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. These reforms are making their debut during the Bihar Assembly elections and the by-elections to eight Assembly constituencies nationwide.
These reforms are designed to boost voter convenience, transparency, and efficiency in elections. Key updates include limiting the number of voters per polling station to 1,200 to minimize congestion and enhance the voting experience, adding color photographs of candidates on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and ballot units for easier identification, deploying more women polling personnel to promote female voter participation, and improving access for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities through ramps, wheelchairs, and pick-up/drop-off services.
Real-time voter turnout will be monitored via digital dashboards and mobile applications to ensure transparent information dissemination. Additional measures include the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for surveillance and GPS-enabled monitoring at sensitive polling stations to avert misconduct, stringent enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) via tech-enabled monitoring teams, and green election initiatives aimed at minimizing paper use, advocating digital communication, and promoting environmentally friendly materials at polling sites.
The CEO assessed the readiness of various departments to guarantee the delivery of free, fair, inclusive, and peaceful elections. He urged all political entities to extend full cooperation and adhere strictly to the Model Code of Conduct.
The Jubilee Hills constituency by-election is scheduled for November 11.
This vacancy arose due to the passing of the sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath of the BRS in June.
According to the Election Commission's schedule, the official notification for the by-election will be released on October 13, with the deadline for filing nominations set for October 21. Nomination scrutiny will occur on October 22, and candidates can withdraw until October 24.
Vote counting is slated for November 14, with the overall election process concluding by November 16, 2025.
