Jammu, April 16 (NationPress) Justice Arun Palli was officially sworn in as the Chief Justice of the J&K & Ladakh High Court on Wednesday. The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during a ceremony held at the Convention Centre. The event was attended by notable figures including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, judges from the high court, the Chief Secretary, and various senior officials.

Following the retirement of Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan on April 10, Justice Sanjeev Kumar took on the role of acting Chief Justice.

According to an official statement, "At a ceremony today at the Convention Centre, Justice Arun Palli took the oath of office before Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the head of the Union Territory of J&K."

Born on September 18, 1964, Justice Palli earned his commerce degree and completed his law studies at Panjab University in 1988.

His father, Prem Kishan Palli, was a prominent advocate and later a judge at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, retiring in 1998.

Justice Palli started his legal career at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and served as the Additional Advocate General for Punjab from 2004 to March 2007. He was designated as a senior advocate later that same year.

On December 28, 2013, he was elevated to the position of judge at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

On May 31, 2023, he was appointed as the Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Service Authority.

He was also nominated as a Member of the Governing Body of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) on October 31, 2023, with a tenure of two years.

The J&K High Court is authorized to have 17 judges, with 13 serving as permanent judges and four as additional judges.
