Chandigarh, Sep 16 (NationPress) A court in Bathinda, Punjab has once again summoned actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut regarding a defamation case linked to her comments about an elderly woman farmer protester. The BJP MP has been instructed to appear promptly, with the next hearing set for September 29.
This development follows the Supreme Court's recent decision not to entertain her petition aimed at dismissing the proceedings against her.
Prior to the Supreme Court's involvement, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had rejected her plea.
Justice Tribhuvan Singh Dahiya of the High Court noted, "There are specific allegations against the petitioner, a celebrity, that false and defamatory statements made in her retweet have damaged the respondent's reputation and diminished her self-esteem, as well as how others perceive her. Thus, the filing of this complaint to defend her rights cannot be viewed as mala fide."
The defamation complaint was initiated by Mahinder Kaur (73) from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district, claiming that Kangana falsely identified her as Bilkis Bano from the Shaheen Bagh protests and insinuated that women like her could be paid to protest for merely Rs 100.
