Parameshwara are expected to receive the final list of new ministers on Monday, 3 August, after a high-level Congress leadership meeting at the residence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. The long-delayed Karnataka Cabinet expansion — which has been deferred multiple times since the government took office — now appears to be in its final hours.

Senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, General Secretaries K.C. Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala are reportedly participating in the Delhi meeting alongside Kharge to sign off on the final composition of the expanded ministry. According to party sources, the list is expected to be cleared by noon and transmitted to the Karnataka Governor for approval, paving the way for a swearing-in ceremony the same evening.

Both Shivakumar and Parameshwara have kept their schedules clear for the day, signalling that the party leadership is expected to move quickly. Venugopal and Surjewala are likely to travel to Bengaluru with the approved list, following which the official announcement and swearing-in schedule will be confirmed.

What the Expansion Involves

Chief Minister Shivakumar has reportedly submitted a tentative list of 20 legislators to the Congress high command for induction into the ministry. The current 14-member Council of Ministers — sworn in on 3 June — has left 20 ministerial berths vacant since the government assumed office exactly two months ago. The expansion is designed to fill those positions while balancing regional representation, caste equations, and political seniority within the ruling party.

The swearing-in ceremony, if confirmed, is expected to be held on Monday evening at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru. Officials at Lok Bhavan have reportedly been issued oral instructions by the Chief Minister's Office to begin logistical preparations. The Governor is also said to have kept his evening schedule free in anticipation of the event.

Vokkaliga Community Demands Representation

Ahead of the finalisation, Nanjavadhoota Swamiji on Monday urged the Congress high command to ensure adequate representation for the Vokkaliga community in the expanded Cabinet. Speaking to reporters, the seer demanded that six to seven Cabinet berths be allocated to members of the community.

'The Vokkaliga community has consistently stood behind D.K. Shivakumar. Karnataka's political history shows that governments have been formed with the support of the community. Traditionally, the community has been given six to seven Cabinet posts, and the same representation should continue this time as well. Along with senior leaders, a woman from the community should also be inducted into the Cabinet,' the seer said.

Chief Minister Shivakumar himself belongs to the Vokkaliga community, adding political weight to the demand.

The Karnataka Cabinet expansion has been deferred on multiple occasions since the Congress government was sworn in, reflecting the complexity of balancing competing caste, regional, and factional interests within the party.
