Hyderabad, July 3 (NationPress) The President of Telangana Jagruthi and BRS MLC K. Kavitha declared a 'Rail Roko' protest scheduled for July 17, aiming to secure 42% reservation for backward classes. She announced that all trains from Telangana to Delhi will be halted to exert pressure on the BJP-led Central government to ratify the BC Reservation Bill passed by the Telangana legislature.
Kavitha insisted that local body elections should not be conducted by the state government without increasing the reservation for backward classes.
Speaking to the media after unveiling promotional posters for the 'Rail Roko' event, she mentioned that multiple parties are backing the protest, asserting, "I am the BRS. The BRS will support rail roko" when questioned about her party's involvement.
She urged the BJP to take proactive steps concerning the BC Reservation Bill and sent a letter to the BJP's newly appointed state President Ramchander Rao, requesting him to discuss the matter with the Centre.
Kavitha also reached out to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who was expected in Hyderabad later that day. She criticized Kharge for seeking political gains ahead of local body elections, questioning how Congress could proceed without fulfilling promises made to backward classes.
The BRS MLC pointed out that Kharge, along with Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, has never championed the cause of backward classes in Parliament.
She urged Kharge to pressure the BJP for implementing the 42% reservation for backward classes.
Moreover, Kavitha called for transparency regarding the caste survey conducted statewide, insisting that details should be released at the gram panchayat level.
Additionally, she accused Congress of being lenient towards the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla project by Andhra Pradesh, referencing statements made by Congress MLA Anirudh Reddy regarding contract motivations behind the project.
Kavitha claimed that Reddy suggested there are hidden supporters of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Telangana, urging Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take a firm stance against the Banakacherla project.
