Did Kerala Chief Electoral Officer Dismiss Viral Video Allegations?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala, Rathan U. Kelkar, vehemently rejected the claims made in a viral video shared by R.K. Radhakrishnan on the X platform.
In a statement on his official social media, Kelkar explained that he personally attended the hearing because neither his nor his family's names were listed in the 2002 Kerala electoral rolls.
He clarified that this situation arose as they were living in Bengaluru during that time.
He added that he has fulfilled all requirements of the hearing by submitting the necessary documentation.
“This situation underscores the transparency inherent in our democratic system. The obligation for even high-ranking officials to adhere to standard protocols reflects the true essence of our democracy,” he remarked.
He further addressed allegations from the video that numerous individuals are being deliberately excluded from the voter list, stating, “The Election Commission's policy is to ensure that every qualified individual is included in the voter registry. The assertion that it is impossible to verify names in the 2002 list is unfounded, as this information is accessible through the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), leaving no room for misinterpretation,” Kelkar asserted.
Additionally, the video suggests serious claims about the Election Commission being swayed by political entities.
He urged that misleading and incorrect information should not be circulated among the public, emphasizing, “The Election Commission operates as a constitutional body, maintaining a transparent and unbiased stance.”
In the shared video, Radhakrishnan, PhD, questions, “Yo Gyanesh, why was the name of the top electoral official in Kerala removed from the voter list? How can it be true that his name isn’t on the 2002 rolls? It’s deeply regrettable that spokespersons from the @BJP4India will defend such absurd claims!”
The CEO participated in the hearing at the Kowdiar village office, responding to a notice directed at him.
According to election officials, the number of ‘unmapped’ voters in Kerala stands at 19.32 lakh.
