Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking achievement, a police station in Kerala has become the first in India to earn certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
This prestigious accolade was awarded to the Arthunkal Police Station, located in Alappuzha district.
After undergoing a thorough two-stage audit, the station met the stringent quality and risk management standards that were established and confirmed.
The evaluation criteria included efficiency in law and order management, crime investigation, modern complaint handling practices, basic facilities at police stations, and the conduct of police officers.
The certification was presented by Praveen Khanna, Deputy Director General of the Southern Region at BIS, in the presence of State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrashekar, H Venkatesh, ADGP L&O, IG South Zone, and other senior officials.
This achievement is part of the ongoing Modernised Cherthala Police Programme, spearheaded by ASP Cherthala Harish Jain, IPS. Through this initiative, the performance of the station in areas such as crime prevention, investigation, law and order maintenance, traffic management, emergency response, judicial coordination, and public grievance redressal has significantly improved.
All these functions were carried out in alignment with the Indian legal framework, government policies, and directives, emphasizing efficiency, transparency, and public satisfaction within the jurisdiction of Arthunkal Police Station.
Interestingly, this remarkable recognition for a Kerala Police station comes amid serious concerns raised by opposition parties, including the Congress-led UDF and the BJP, regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
The Kerala Police faced criticism for their handling of a recent shutdown observed in the state, where striking unions, primarily the trade union wing of the ruling CPI-M, resorted to threats against shopkeepers and establishments that chose to remain open.
On the preceding day, police were criticized for their inaction as CPI-M-SFI student wing activists assaulted officers attempting to maintain order at Kerala University.
