Bengaluru, April 12 (NationPress) Kickstart FC has secured their place in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2024-25 after achieving a 2-0 victory against Sethu FC at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Saturday. The two crucial goals were scored early in the first half by Laishram Bibicha Devi in the 14th minute and Karishma Shirvoikar in the 17th minute.
This victory propelled the Bengaluru team to fourth place in the league standings with 17 points, sitting five points clear of the relegation zone with just one match remaining.
Meanwhile, Sethu FC, suffering their sixth defeat in the last eight games, has fallen to fifth place with 16 points. Kickstart FC has experienced a remarkable revival, having not won any of their first six matches and spending nine rounds in the relegation zone, but they found their form at the crucial moment to ensure their survival and secure a sixth consecutive season in the IWL.
Kickstart was determined from the onset, justifying their two-goal lead within 17 minutes. Ranjana Chanu, playing on the left wing, was instrumental in setting up both goals.
Ainembazi had a chance to extend the lead to three in the 37th minute when she faced Sethu goalkeeper Gyurme Tamang in a one-on-one situation. However, she missed the opportunity, sending her shot wide of the near post.
Despite a more dominant possession in the second half, Sethu struggled to convert that into effective play. Kickstart goalkeeper Maibam Linthoingambi Devi had a relatively easy night, even being substituted for the last ten minutes to allow Aiswarya a chance to play.
Kickstart played strategically to maintain their lead while employing counterattacks, yet they missed several chances to increase their scoreline.
Dangmei Grace became more active in the second half, utilizing the space on the right, but couldn't find the finishing touch. Renu, who came off the bench, attempted a few inaccurate shots, including one that went straight to Tamang from a cross by Grace.
Ultimately, Sethu FC's performance was disappointing, marked by a lack of attacking vigor and defensive disarray. Kickstart capitalized on their opportunities and rightfully earned the three points.
