Why is the K’taka BJP Criticizing the Siddaramaiah Government over Liquor Vendors' Complaints?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Congress-led government in the state following the liquor vendors’ association's choice to approach the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, concerning alleged irregularities within the Excise Department.
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, stated on Tuesday, “The liquor vendors’ association, frustrated with the ongoing commission racket and corruption in the Excise Department, has opted to file a complaint with Rahul Gandhi. This situation is a significant disgrace for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
“Nevertheless, the unfortunate liquor vendors will probably not receive any assistance. Given that it is Rahul Gandhi himself who has purportedly ordered the collection of funds, what can they realistically anticipate from him?” Ashoka challenged.
“Until this looting Congress-led administration in Karnataka is ousted, the issues faced by contractors and liquor vendors will remain unresolved. That is a guarantee,” he asserted.
In an interview with a Kannada media outlet, S. Guruswamy, the president of the Liquor Vendors’ Association, mentioned that they have decided to meet Rahul Gandhi and submit a complaint regarding the ongoing corruption in the Excise Department.
It is noteworthy that recently, a Deputy Commissioner was caught in the act accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh as the initial installment for issuing a CL-7 license in Bengaluru. Following this, accusations arose against Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapur, asserting that the licensing scam is extensive, involving approximately Rs 2,000 crore.
Guruswamy remarked that in the state, “the fence is consuming the crop.” He claimed that corruption is prevalent at every level, from ministers and commissioners to junior officers. He further noted that complaints have been presented to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah numerous times, yet there has been no response.
“We will soon file a complaint with the Karnataka Lokayukta. We have also resolved to present complaints to the Governor and the Central government,” he stated.
The BJP has vehemently protested against the corruption allegations involving Excise Minister Thimmapur and has demanded his resignation by staging a protest in the Assembly during the session.
