Bengaluru, Oct 30 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress-led Karnataka government of fostering confusion and postponing the implementation of internal reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes within the state.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP MP Govind Karjol claimed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s administration has adopted a strategy of “delay and deception” regarding the internal reservation matter, which has been a longstanding demand for justice among marginalized communities.
During a press briefing at the BJP’s state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, Karjol stated: “For the past 30 years, there has been a consistent demand to implement internal reservation among Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government initiated efforts to provide justice to 101 communities advocating for social equality. It has been over a year since that initiative, yet the Congress government is intentionally stalling progress.”
He accused the state government of acting with “malicious intent” to overturn the current internal reservation order.
“By the time the Belagavi Assembly session convenes on December 8, legal challenges will be filed in the Supreme Court and the High Court, potentially leading to the revocation of the internal reservation order. This is exactly what Siddaramaiah’s administration desires,” asserted Karjol.
He further criticized the government for issuing “flawed and contradictory” directives, thus denying justice to Scheduled Caste communities.
“When a case contesting the Siddaramaiah government’s order was recently heard in the High Court, no government representative appeared. This negligence resulted in a partial stay on the order,” he mentioned.
“The Siddaramaiah government is not committed to safeguarding the interests of the 101 communities. The Chief Minister is engaging in political maneuvering to appease one specific community while disregarding the others,” he alleged.
Karjol also condemned the state government’s financial management, asserting it is using the fiscal crisis as a pretext to delay recruitment. “The treasury is empty, and the government is unwilling to make new appointments. They believe that postponing recruitment will benefit them politically,” he claimed.
He further stated that the Congress government is attempting to mislead Dalit communities by convening a Cabinet meeting on the matter while simultaneously drafting a Bill.“By November 5, the government must present its explanation to the High Court. Instead of addressing the issue, it is instigating further confusion,” he added.
“The Congress has consistently believed that Dalits and the oppressed should not advance. For 79 years, they have treated Dalits merely as a vote bank and intend to maintain this for the next century. This reflects the deplorable mindset of the Congress,” Karjol charged.
He also criticized the Social Welfare Department for its lack of preparation in defending the case.
“The Congress government has overlooked reports from Justice Nagamohan Das and Justice Sadashiva—both appointed by them—as well as the Cabinet Sub-Committee report compiled under former minister Madhu Swamy during our administration,” he concluded.
