Did Union Minister Kumaraswamy Call Siddaramaiah a 'Lease-Based CM'?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 10 (NationPress) Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy took a jab at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday, labeling him a “lease-based” Chief Minister.
In response to inquiries from the media regarding Siddaramaiah reportedly surpassing the benchmarks set by the late former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs during his administration, Kumaraswamy remarked.
“There are claims that records set by Devaraj Urs have been outdone. Urs had previously been at odds with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and retained his power consistently. Now, Siddaramaiah seems to be waiting for Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to indicate when he should step down,” Kumaraswamy added with sarcasm.
Siddaramaiah, along with other Congress leaders, has asserted that he will remain in the Chief Minister’s role until the high command directs him otherwise, Kumaraswamy noted. “He has reiterated this on several occasions. In my view, he is a lease-based Chief Minister,” Kumaraswamy emphasized.
When questioned about any evidence supporting his claims, Kumaraswamy admitted he lacked specific information.
In the meantime, addressing concerns about potential rifts between the BJP and JD(S) regarding local body elections, Kumaraswamy stated that there was no cause for alarm. The JD(S) will consistently support the BJP in facing the Congress, he added.
“We will ensure that no misunderstandings arise. There should be no doubts in this matter, and ultimately, the state should benefit,” he affirmed.
Responding to inquiries about rumors surrounding the closure of the government-owned Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) factory, Kumaraswamy clarified that a decision for disinvestment had been made back in 2016. He mentioned that manufacturing continues on a smaller scale and that no units have been shut down, whether in Kerala or Hyderabad.
“I intend to meet PM Modi regarding the reopening of the HMT factory. I have already put forth a request. By leveraging modern technology, we aim to revitalize HMT. There should be no uncertainty about this,” Kumaraswamy concluded.
