Kabul, March 29 (NationPress) Tragedy struck in Eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province when a mini-bus collided with two vehicles, resulting in the death of one individual and injuring 10 others, as reported by the provincial police office on Sunday.

The accident occurred in the provincial capital, Mehtarlam, on Saturday afternoon when the mini-bus carelessly crashed into both a three-wheeled rickshaw and a motorcycle. The impact killed one person instantly and left 10 others hurt, among whom were five children and two women, according to Xinhua News Agency.

All injured individuals have been transferred to the hospital for urgent medical care. The statement from the police urged all drivers to adhere to traffic laws to prevent such incidents in the future.

This incident follows a similar tragedy on March 1, where at least three people lost their lives and six were injured due to a highway crash in northern Afghanistan's Jawzjan province. The collision involved two speeding vehicles that crashed in the Hadbakhshi area along the Jawzjan-Sari Pul highway, resulting in the deaths of both drivers and a female passenger, while six others, including two children, were injured.

The injured were also taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Authorities have reiterated the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations to avoid further accidents.

Road safety remains a significant concern in war-torn Afghanistan, where deteriorating road conditions, reckless driving, and insufficient safety protocols contribute to frequent fatal incidents.

Earlier in the year, on January 31, another road accident in Baghlan province claimed three lives and left two injured when two fast-moving vehicles collided in the Qala-e-Baday area of Dushi district. Similarly, on January 29, a vehicle in northern Badakhshan province veered off a mountainside and fell into a ravine, resulting in two deaths and one injury.

Point of View

The ongoing issue of road safety in Afghanistan is alarming. The repeated incidents of fatal accidents reveal a concerning trend that necessitates immediate attention from authorities. The tragic loss of life and injuries underscore the pressing need for enhanced traffic regulations and public awareness campaigns to ensure the safety of all road users.
