New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha experienced ongoing interruptions on Friday due to the sloganeering by members of the Opposition, resulting in the adjournment of the House twice—initially until 12 noon and then again until 2 PM. The Opposition insisted on a debate regarding the shortages and insufficient supply of LPG, persistently chanting slogans even after the Chair rejected their request.

Upon resuming at 12 noon, a state of chaos ensued as Opposition members continued their slogan-shouting. They surged into the Well of the House, creating a tumultuous environment while officiating Speaker Sandhya Ray attempted to conduct proceedings. Despite her repeated appeals for order, the Opposition did not relent.

As the uproar persisted, with the Opposition defying the Chair, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed profound disappointment. He lamented that their behavior had not improved despite being called out during the extensive discussion on the no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

“Your actions are undermining the House and bringing it into disrepute. If you fail to change your ways, you will face severe consequences from the public,” Rijiju warned the protesting lawmakers.

He also noted that Congress and Opposition members had participated in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting earlier, agreeing on the agenda for discussions on supplementary demand for grants and private member resolutions.

Criticizing the Opposition, he highlighted that it was anticipated they would refine their conduct following lengthy debates on the no-confidence motion, but unfortunately, nothing has altered.

Rijiju also targeted Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of ‘picnicking’ outside the Parliament and suggesting he was resistant to changing his behavior, even as those who could guide him have become mere followers.

Referring to the protest at the Parliament’s entrance gate, which included Rahul Gandhi, he characterized it as nothing short of drama and a publicity stunt aimed at attracting public attention.

Previously, Speaker Om Birla expressed disapproval over the Opposition members ‘transforming the entrance gate into a picnic spot.’ He emphasized that it is everyone’s responsibility to uphold the dignity and sanctity of Parliament.

As the House convened on Friday morning, members demanded the revocation of the suspension of eight lawmakers and sought a discussion on the LPG shortages.

The Speaker urged the members not to disrupt proceedings and to raise any public concern issues after the Question Hour, emphasizing that this time is critical for matters related to specific constituencies.

Shortly after the session began, the Speaker adjourned the House until 12 noon, citing the inability to function amidst ongoing protests.
